Statement of Purpose
Eco-Friendly Events exists to empower organizations, communities, and individuals to create memorable experiences that prioritize environmental responsibility, social impact, and economic sustainability. We design and deliver events that minimize harm, maximize positive outcomes, and reflect the values of a just, equitable, and climate-conscious future.
Our Values
Intersectional Environmentalism
There’s no environmental justice without social justice. We’re committed to supporting environmentally vulnerable communities, which includes Black Brown Indigenous Melanated people (BBIMP), as coined by According to Weeze.
Accessibility
By prioritizing equity and justice, we’re committed to making tools, education, and resources accessible to all. Accessibility means everyone (regardless of disabilities or a lack of resources) can easily obtain, use, understand, or appreciate information, support, and spaces (digital or physical).
Transparency
We’re not perfect. No one is. Instead, it’s vital for us to clearly share our progress along the way. Transparency and specificity are also part of our mission to counteract inauthentic greenwashing.
Guiding Principles
- We aim to reduce waste, emissions, and resource use while increasing engagement in sustainable behaviors. Our approach emphasizes local and ethical procurement, waste diversion, climate impact awareness, and community benefit.
- To integrate environmental and considerations into all our business decisions.
- To ensure that all staff, vendors, subcontractors and temporary are fully aware of our ESG Policies and are committed to implementing and improving it. This includes a brief training during the onboarding process.
- To make clients and suppliers aware of our ESG Policies in our proposals and encourage them to adopt sound sustainable management practices.
- To review and to continually strive to improve our sustainability performance.
Our Commitments:
Transportation
- Avoid physically travelling to meetings where alternatives are available and practical, such as using teleconferencing, video conferencing and efficient timing of meetings to avoid multiple trips.
- Prioritizing walking, cycling and/or use public transport to attend meetings, site visits etc.
- In exceptional circumstances where walking, cycling or pubic transit are impractical and/or cost prohibitive, we commit to taking national rail, carpooling, using Uber Green and direct flights.
- Offsetting any air travel with third-party certified projects
Energy and Digital Efficiencies
- Using Ecosia as our search engine
- Using a green website host (run on renewable energy)
- Purchasing energy efficient devices (i.e. monitors, laptops, keyboards etc.)
- Turning of all devices when not in use (i.e. using smart plugs, power bars etc.)
Procurement and Waste Management
- Sourcing office supplies and materials from small, local businesses when and where possible
- Ensuring that there’s recycling and composting available in home offices and complying with the rules and regulations set out by the municipality or waste management company
- Prioritizing the use of items already on-hand before purchasing second hand or new items made of recycled materials
Working On-Site
- Bringing own reusable water bottle and coffee containers
- Eliminating or reducing print materials for the team on-site including but not limited to production schedules, run-of-show documents, floor plans etc.
- When seeking on-site support
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
- We partner with businesses and vendors owned and run by BBIMP and recommend those businesses to our clients
- We actively engage in ongoing education to challenge biases and deepen our understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- We continue to share social justice resources
