Question for values-based entrepreneurs:

Why do you prioritize the longterm sustainability and success of your business but NOT the impact it has on the environment?

you know you need to incorporate eco-friendly practices into your business becuase...

let me ask you, does this sound familiar?

You had one idea about your business and how it would operate.

You FINALLY got all your ducks in a row i.e. vetted all of your product suppliers and partners. You plop on your couch to enjoy the moment and relax.

You start scrolling through Twitter and see that Australia and California are quite literally ON FIRE and there are now millions of plastic masks in our oceans. Then you saw that Prime Minister Trudeau announced that Canada will be officially banning single-use plastic by the end of 2021 (WOOHOO!).

But then you’re thinking…

“F*ck Me.” What am I going to do about my product packaging now?

or maybe...

You don’t think spending more money on resources that don’t help your bottom line is necessary. You started your business because you wanted to help the people who need it most in your community, be your own boss and well… to make money (DUH!).

Sure you care about the environment, I mean you’re already recycling and taking public transit to your favourite co-working space. Isn’t that enough?

You do care about the planet but you’re just ONE business owner, how much impact could you possibly make?

or perhaps...

You’re a brand new business owner (YAY – Congrats!) and being green is the trendy thing to do right now. So not only have you taken the leap to be an entrepreneur but you’ve also decided to tackle being a green business all at the same time.

Right now, you can’t decide between Company A and Company B because A has biodegradable packaging and Company B with vegan and sustainable packaging. You’re absolutely embarrassed because you don’t know what the heck the difference is and Googling terms is just making you more and more confused!

Do you have all the right intentions because you’re trying to be green in your business but you’re just falling short?

You must learn how to distinguish between legitimate and greenwashing partners and suppliers by working with sustainability experts that you can rely on.

You need to acknowledge that some eco-friendly options will actually increase your bottom line.

If you’re not seeing the sustainability results that you want in your business plan and if you want to remain competitive, you must learn how to incorporate sustainability into your day-to-day business practices.

So that you can take pride in your, green offerings, knowing that they are really eco-friendly

So that you know your business is doing its part to support the fight against climate change

So that you have the confidence to make strong decisions that are good for both your bottom line and for the planet

So that you can continue to be the change that you want to see in your industry

When transitioning into an eco-friendlier lifestyle, I know what it’s like to Google “eco-friendly ___” and have a million and one suggestions. One source says this is better and another says the complete opposite. Not only is it overwhelming and exhausting, it feels impossible to decide.

After numerous years of doing the research and realizing that, hey wait a minute – each individual has a unique sustainability journey? I take the knowledge I’ve learned from my B.A. in Environmental Studies coupled with learning about your personal values and support you in finding the the best suited solutions that aligns best with your values.

don't believe me? ask my clients!

Mutual industry friends introduced Romina and I and I am so glad we connected. I was working on shifting Lovedey to more sustainable experiential production but felt overwhelmed with where to start. I met with Romina and she spent time asking lots of questions, getting to know my business and my concerns. She shared a lot of really helpful information with me and suggested we create a sustainability guide to anchor Lovedey’s production process moving forward. She had already shown me how knowledgeable and engaged she is, so I didn’t hesitate to say yes. My favourite part of the guide Romina prepared for us, are the concrete examples she included, as well as the vetting questions, complete with a point system. It has made our decision making process so much easier and helps us demonstrate to our clients the work we are doing to make their events and activations kinder to the planet.

Romina was a delight to work with! She answered all our questions quickly by email or on calls and helped us to ask questions we hadn't thought of. She stepped in to help us late in our event planning game when we suddenly realized we didn't know how to fulfill our desire to be eco-friendly at a venue that had limited options for an element of green waste removal. She sourced and connected us with multiple options at varying price points.

Like starting any new business, there’s always upfront costs and investments. Once you invest in becoming an eco-friendly business, you will learn how these short-term investments will give you long-term gains (Yay more money!). For example, investing in a reusable water bottle is $10 today but buying plastic water bottles everyday for $1.25/each = $456.25.

And on a conscious level, if we aren’t doing our part to be more environmentally friendly there won’t be a planet for you to share your gifts and your passions. No planet = no profit (just some food for thought).

I work with values-based entrepreneurs who are thoughtful and intentional in their decision-making process. They may be concerned about their bottom line, but they cherish their customers, clients and community relationships much more.

These entrepreneurs are purpose-driven because they were once frustrated with the industry they worked in and started their businesses to create the change they wanted to see, they broke away from the “norm.” Think Ikea, Cheekbone Beauty or Patagonia.

This is a safe space and I will not be judging you. It all begins with a first step – the desire to change. And if that’s the stage you are in right now, then you’re in the right place. My firm belief at Eco-Friendly Events is education and taking small, yet impactful actions. I want to help you transform your business into an eco-friendly one no matter what level you’re at. We will help you reach the next phase by giving you the tools to continue to improve year after year!

As the sole decision-maker of your business, you get to determine how quickly you’d like to change and implement sustainability practices into your business. Whether it’s one item at a time or all at once, it’s completely up to you!

It completely varies depending on your personal choices, values and decisions. It can cost anywhere from $0 or to infinity and beyond (re-read that in Buzz Lightyear’s voice if you didn’t already). Some things don’t have any monetary commitment to change, maybe just your time. While other decisions will have higher upfront costs but long-term savings.

Did you know that 66% of global consumers are willing to pay more for sustainable goods and 73% of those consumers are millennials (born from 1977 – 1995)?? So yes, yes your clients really are willing to pay more for eco-friendly options.

In fact, many large corporations have specifically included a green line into their budgets to invest into processes and resources that helps both their bottom line and the environment. It’s no longer the concept of business VERSUS the environment – you can actually do both!

A pillar to Eco-Friendly Events is ensuring that each part of the product life cycle is greener (Remember nothing is perfectly “zero waste” or eco-friendly). Basically, we want to know where something comes from, how it’s made, how it’s used and where it ends up at the end of its life.

Absolutely! If the Eco-Standards package doesn’t sound like quite the right fit then check out our Eco-Operations package. I will do all the heavy-lifting of researching and finding the right vendors, suppliers and partners for your business to make the transition as easy as possible. Contact me at for more information.
